UC Davis's Department of Special Collections, established July 1966, houses the Library's rare books, manuscript collections, the University Archives, and other noncirculating research materials requiring care and control that cannot be provided in the open stacks. The Department's major purposes are to acquire these materials, make them available for use, and preserve their integrity for future generations of students and scholars.
The University of California, Davis, Library, Special Collections' digital collection at California Revealed consists of texts, moving images, and audio recordings from the 1860s to 1990s. The collection includes oral history interviews with former professors, politicians, and farmers of Davis and surrounding areas; historical documents related to agriculture; industrial films produced by the Blackwelder Manufacturing Company; and recordings of several Whole Earth Festivals in Davis.
