The Placer County Museums Division manages seven museums and maintains an Archive and Collection Center with a public reading room available for researchers. Archival and museum collections have been accumulated by this facility since 1948 and includes privately donated collections as well as official government records dating back to the establishment of Placer County in 1851. Our mission is to collect, preserve, interpret, and share the history of Placer County and its significant relationship to larger themes in California and American history.
The Placer County Museums Division's digital collection at California Revealed consists of texts and audio recordings from the 1880s to 1940s. The collection includes several oral histories of the DeWitt General Hospital, located in Auburn, California, during World War II. The hospital served the morale and physical well-being of many troops recovering from the war. The collection also includes handwritten and illustrated manuscripts created by Chinese Americans living in Northern California in the 19th century.
