Congregation Emanu-El of San Francisco, California is one of the two oldest Jewish congregations in California, and one of the largest Jewish congregations in the United States. A member of the Union for Reform Judaism, Congregation Emanu-El is a significant gathering place for the Bay Area Jewish community. The Congregation Emanu-El Museum and Archives, established by Rabbi Alvin I. Fine in 1950, is dedicated to collecting and preserving the Congregation’s rich and vibrant history. The Archives contain a wealth of materials pertaining to its clergy, congregants, and educational programs, as well as its architecture, administration, and volunteer organizations. Congregation Emanu-El Museum and Archives' digital collection at California Revealed encompasses newspapers documenting the early Jewish history of San Francisco in the 19th century.
