California College of the Arts, formerly California College of Arts and Crafts, was founded in 1907 by Frederick Meyer, along with Xavier Martinez, Perham Nahl, and Isabelle Percy West. Originally in Berkeley, California, the college moved to its Oakland campus in 1922. Another campus in San Francisco was established in 1986.
The California College of the Arts Libraries have many collections that go beyond the typical books and journals you'd expect in an academic library. We have collections that are designed to support the manifold nature of learning at the California College of the Arts, as well as archives meant to preserve the history of the college and its related creative practices.
The California College of the Arts Libraries’ digital collection at California Revealed consists of moving images and still images from the late 1940s to the early 2000s. These include works by various students and members of the Capp Street Project, footage of campus activities, interviews with artists and intellectuals like Raymond Saunders and Marlon Riggs, as well as a large number of Robert Sommer’s remarkable photographs of sculptures created in the Emeryville mudflats.
