Description
The Combined Asian Resources Project (also known as Combined Asian Amercian Resource Project or CARP) was a historic oral history project and publishing collective formed in the San Francisco Bay Area by Frank Chin, Jeffery Paul Chan, Lawson Fusao Inada, Shawn Wong, and others. Chin was born in Berkeley, CA and studied at UC Berkeley. CARP was a critical part of the formation and blossoming of Asian American literature, theatre, and culture in the 1970s. The oral history project documented the lives of Asian Americans, particularly Chinese Americans, which had previously and continue to be under-documented. Even in cases where interviewees discussed their lives in other cities such as New York, their migration stories ending or stopping in California are valuable to understanding California history.
