In February 1998, BAMPFA hosted a tribute to Robert Wise by having screenings of some of his most well-known films. Fresh off winning the American Film Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award, Wise spoke at the Archive on February 27 and 28. Wise discussed Hollywood through the decades, as well as technical information on certain films and his own personal anecdotes and experiences from many years in Hollywood. Topics included working with Orson Welles, West Side Story, The Sound of Music, The Haunting, and I Want to Live! Discussion on February 27 led by film historian and UC Berkeley professor Albert Johnson.
