Unedited interview with Bert Corona. Corona was a labor and civil rights activist who participated in various Mexican American organizations. They discussed topics such as: the making of musical instruments and the contrast between the retention of indigenous influence versus the commercialization of music, the growth of Spanish radio and TV programming, the presence of Mexican-Americans in professional sports, casting of Mexican Americans in movie roles, the erasure of Mexican innovations in science, art and architecture, the use of Western medicine, preparation of Mexican dishes, lingering sentiments of United States historical injustices against Mexico. Cultural land reform symbols (Pancho Villa), religious conversion, social discrimination in the form of deportation, lack of job promotions, sense of identity, assimilation and political organizing/affiliations. Californians of Mexican Descent Raw Materials. These recordings were used in a series Colin Edward produced for KPFA and are potentially the original recordings for that program.
