Description
The 1996 Olympic Torch arrived at the Los Angeles Coliseum on its way to Atlanta, Georgia on April 27, 1996. Rafer Johnson, legendary athlete was the first LA torchbearer to carry it on its way. Others ran with it through Los Angeles County, arriving in Orange County in the early morning hours.
As it made its way, celebrants in Huntington Beach were prepared to welcome its arrival there - the first stopover of the torch in the United States. The event featured a number of greetings, performances and even a surfboard salute before the torch continued on its way to San Diego.
This film is of the press conference announcing the route and plans for celebrating its historic arrival in Huntington Beach, featuring organizers and athletes.
It was professionally filmed for the then-active Huntington Beach TV channel.
