Description
Speier gives an insider view of California's legislature and the legislative process. In particular, she talks about the last session of the legislature, in which no party had a majority. As a result of this lack of leadership, she thinks the legislature reached a nadir, but it is now on the upswing. Turning to upcoming issues, she discusses health insurance, transportation, education, campaign reform, and families. She closes by urging citizen participation in the process. The question and answer session begins at 34:45. In response to a question about her experiences in Jonestown (56:20), Speier talks about being shot, surviving, and how it changed her personally. In addition, she discusses the implications of the People's Temple as a cult that, according to her, was protected by the US Department of State. (This program was initially titled "Looking back at Jonestown."). Introduction (01:11)
