Description
Folk music of Yugoslavia.
Liner Notes:
The turn of the century found many of our Slav people emigrating to Watsonville's Pajaro Valley. The economic situation in their homeland forced many a young man to bid a sad farewell to his family and seek his fortune in our fertile valley. This poignant scend was repeated often in the many villages on the mainland of Yugoslavia, and also in the numerous villages on the off-shore islands.
A large majority of our Slav people came from an area south of Dubrovnik, called the Konavle Valley... and so they came! Many of our Slav fathers started growing apples in the Pajaro Valley, and eventually, they established themselves as leaders in the apple industry.
Our Slav people retained strong ethnic ties to the "old country." Therefore, in the spirit of our Slav forefathers, Harmonija is endeavoring to preserve and share our rich folk music heritage with members of our Watsonville community, as well as our audiences outside of the Pajaro Valley. A beautiful musical heritage was bestowed on our Slav ancestors, and they, in turn, passed it on to their fortunate sons and daughters of the Pajaro Valley. This album is Harmonija's way of saying "fala" (thank you) to all the ones who came before us. Marlene Radovich
