Description
First known film produced by the California Division of Forestry. State Forester (Department Director) Dewitt Nelson describes and explains the use of the "Large Fire Organization" system for the organization of forces responding to an emergency, created post WWII, based largely on experience and procedures used by the Army for mobilizing large numbers of men. The Large Fire Organization system (Fire Boss, Line Boss) was the predecessor and foundation for today's Incident Command System (ICS) and National Interagency Incident Management System (NIIMS) for organizing the public response to large fires and emergencies. Filmed using State of California equipment, many scenes depicting tools, motor vehicles and procedures used in the 1950s for wildland fire suppression. Fire camp setup, communications gear and field operations displayed.
