This convocation was a debate about the rationale for and the legality of the House Un-American Activities Committees (HUAC). The debaters were Fulton Lewis III and Burton White. In support of HUAC was Fulton Lewis, producer and narrator of Operation Abolition, HUAC’s documentary film of the May 13, 1960 riots in San Francisco protesting the Committee’s hearings there. In opposition was Burton White, a graduate student and English instructor at University of California, Berkeley. White was one of the 64 people arrested in the riot.
