Description
In the wake of the October 17, 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, Caltrans commissioned an oral history project to document the personal and professional experiences of Caltrans employees who worked to restore the State's damaged transportation system. At the time of the interview, Charlie Maldoon was a Maintenance Supervisor for Caltrans at the Schellville Yard. In this interview Maldoon describes his personal Loma Prieta earthquake in Petaluma, spending the days after the earthquake fielding phone calls at the Schellville Yard. His crew worked to repair damage at Nineteenth Avenue and 101 in San Francisco, they hauled material from the Cypress Structure, and repaired the Marin City culvert.
