Description
Civil rights leader Percy H. Steele Jr. was director of the Bay Area Urban League from 1964-1990, speaking out against discrimination in police hiring practices, real estate leaders and discrimination in housing, and helping found an Oakland school to keep minority youth from dropping out. He helped start a computer training center in the late 1970s with IBM, the first major training program of its kind for African Americans in the Bay Area.
