Description
In the wake of the October 17, 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, Caltrans commissioned an oral history project to document the personal and professional experiences of Caltrans employees who worked to restore the State's damaged transportation system. This oral history recording is the personal recollection of Bob Galles who was an Assistant Bridge Engineer with Caltrans at the time of the Loma Prieta earthquake. In his recollection he mentions about how he felt the quake at home and afterwards he was assigned to shore up the Cypress Structure could continue rescue efforts by emergency responders. Galles was there when the last survivor, Buck Helm was retrieved from the structure.
