Description
Silent color "home-movie" type footage from May 1957 documenting a field training exercise held in Monterey County. (Hunter Liggett Military Reservation) Shows elements of fire camp set up for firefighters and fire managers to organize and respond to a wildland fire. Participation in this annual exercise was required for all District personnel including Rangers, Assistant Rangers, Equipment Operators, Dispatchers, Foremen and Driver. The Footage documents the activities during the session including a handtool training session, dozer loading onto a transport, field kitchen operating during meal service, an operations briefing, set-up of a portable water tank and firefighters at work in the field. Footage in excellent condition displays actual equipment used in the 1950s/60s for fire suppression and displays several vintage fire engines in use. Training planned and organized by Division of Forestry District V, Rangers Gum from Santa Cruz, Weatherford of Santa Barbara, Nash Boulden from San Luis Obispo, and Austin from Monterey, believed to be seen in the closing shots of the film.
