Description
The California Nursery supplied roses to California, the US, and Mexico from 1887-1970s. Footage includes three rose gardens in the San Francisco Bay Area. The first garden is a private garden of Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Derby at Rancho de las Rosas in San Jose. The second garden is the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden. The third garden is the Oakland Municipal rose garden. Movies such as this might have been shown to garden clubs and other organizations. Probably taken in the early 1930s. Possibly 1934 if marking on can are correct.
At the Ranchos de las Rosas: Climbing Golden Emblem, Madame Gregoire Staechelin on arbor, Pauls Scarlet Climber, Vesuvius, Climbing Louise Catherine Breslau, Climbing La Reve, Southport, a new red rose from England, Chaplin’s pink climber, Austrian copper, Ville de Paris.
At the San Jose Municipal rose garden: Vesuvius, Padre, Mrs. G.E. Van Rossum, Isobel, Autumn, Dazla, Angele Pernet, Duquesa de Penaranda, climbing golden emblem, Queen Alexandra, Talisman.
At the Oakland Municipal Garden: Mrs. E.P. Thom and panoramic views.
